Finally a sister trip!

Hey guys, Julie here. Life has been crazy lately... 2 kids, job change, yada yada. It’s just hard to sneak away these days but I am just back from what was a wonderful trip with my sisters. We had so much fun and got to spend that quality time together we all need more than we say out loud.

The first day in Tucson we decided to take a morning run and have breakfast at a coffee shop. My preferred running fit is just leggings and a sports bra. I used to be nervous about calling my sports bra my shirt but those days are long gone. My sisters share the same sentiment, which isn't uncommon, i guess I am only sharing because I had what I thought was such a funny conversation with a lady while we were eating. If I hadn’t been wearing just the bra, she would never have seen my belly button ring. Both my sisters have them, but mine is different because I got bored with the regular jewelry and stretched the piercing like you see people do with their ears.

I've had it stretched for so long that I never think anything about it. At home everyone just knows that is me and must be used to seeing when I run, take yoga, go to the pool, whatever. There are tons of jewelry types, but I love the way rings look. On this day, I was wearing a 10mm thick gold ring with a diamond bead. 10mm is roughly the thickness of a sharpie so it’s not tiny, but I LOVE the way it makes my stomach look. I am naturally tanned and the gold just looks so cute. It doesn't sit quite straight, its heavy, so it moves a bit as I sit or move, but I think it’s the perfect addition for me. I'll never get rid of it! :)

We ordered coffee when we arrived and relaxed while we waited for our food. I had to run to the counter to grab a napkin and as I slid past a woman in line my belly ring wacked right into her metal tumbler cup. It made such a big ding noise that we both were a bit startled. Ha-ha. I eventually gathered my laughter enough to say, "I'm so sorry, that was my belly button piercing". The lady looked down in disbelief and said "what gauge are you at" without missing a beat. Now, in the piercing world a gauge refers to the thickness of the piercing so to hear someone ask that meant they were familiar with the process. I responded with 00g which is 10mm. She leaned down and took a long very detailed look. " Incredible" she said. "Seriously, that’s beautiful". " I was thinking about going to 00g, how do you like it?"

I almost shouted "I LOVE IT... its been this big for wow, i don't know, 12 years? 15 years? A long time!"

"Wow, this is so crazy" she said. "I've been at 0g for maybe 5 years and keep thinking about making one more jump"

She was in casual business clothes, headed into the office, but untucked her shirt and pulled it up to show me her ring. It was a silver 0g ring but instead of a center bead was just continuous. There were 3 diamonds embedded in the ring. It was custom made and beautiful.

I couldn’t believe it as I don’t think I have ever met anyone else with a stretched navel. I guess it’s a bit of a hidden piercing so harder to see in the day to day. It just so happened that day, mine was visible!

We chatted for a bit about our favorite rings over the years and I asked her she minded to come meet my sisters.

I walked her over and made introductions followed by the fact that she loves my belly ring. My new friend lifted her shirt to reveal that she was in the stretched navel club also. My sisters both laughed and Jen said, holy shit, I never thought we would see the day... fine, I’ll stretch mine! Jess followed with a yeah, I’m guess I’m in too. I had been asking them to do it with me forever. Right there, I started a group chat with my sisters and our new friend Angela.

Over the next few years, we texted occasionally and kept up with each other celebrating new jewelry, fun stories, and new stretches for my sisters. Jen and Jess both stretched to 8g on that day we met Angela. They had been pierced for so long that their piercing hole had naturally stretched large enough to accept the 8g rings. Starting at 8g made it so much easier to get to the larger sizes more quickly. Both sisters were to 4g in only a year, a year later it was 2g, then finally to 0g another year later. Standard to 0g in 3 years is incredible. So, that’s where we are today. I'm still rocking the 00g, Jess and Jen at 0g, and Angela well, she just completed what she claims is a final stretch at 12mm. We all also discovered titanium which makes it so easy to wear our rings and not worry about them being heavy. I used to get sore when I ran with my 00g steel ring so I would tuck it under my leggings. With the titanium ring, I can run just fine with it out and showing which is always my preference. After all, if you don't show it off, you will never meet a new friend with the same piercing!

This weekend all the girls are heading back to Tucson for another fun weekend. Angela is joining us for a pool day, and I can't wait to see all 4 of us together running around with our bikinis and gauged belly rings. Jen ordered us all a different color neon thong bikini. It should be such a fun weekend! Can't wait to see Angela's 12mm ring in person!
