it may be pedantic, but it's not really "her" mermaid tail. She stole/copied the idea from someone else, it's not as though she adapted her it or changed it or added her own style. As far as I can see it's just a rip off.

The idea is simply emulating a mythical being... Its not unlikely that it she just happened to have a similar idea to other women, given the popularity of mermaids.
If you followed her blog you may have noticed that in the end of December she commented after having read a thread like this and responded to the claims that shes a tattoo hack.
She said she doesn't really care what people think because she likes it and wants it on her body... I agree with her fully.

You're right that it's her body, though it would be crazy for anyone to claim that it was anyone else's other than her own. I agree with her right not to care and that it could be a similar idea, but in this case it is more like blatant plagiarism.
I'd probably have more respect for her if she or her artist admitted to having seen the other person with the tattoo and that they liked it so much they copied it/used it very heavily as inspiration.

Are you kidding? They've certainly got a different style to them.
Of course someone had to be the first to have a tattoo of a heart, or a tribal armband, or an anchor, or mermaid legs....... it's just nice when people take an idea and make it their own. I don't think I've ever seen a suicide girl with rip off work.

Well, babeink and Elayne's mermaid tails are REMARKABLY similar. Right down to the fins at the sides of the legs and the shading.
I'm sure if you were going for a mermaid tail design independently, it would not be so close a match.
Having said that, I'm not complaining -- any beautiful woman who chooses to get so much tattoo coverage is to be applauded

Hi all...
If truth be told, Elayne was inspired for both her Mermaid leggings and her development of the "Fourchette" by this book, which apparently is still available...

I know this for fact - I wrote this at the behest of her then husband Ira Levine (of Rolling Stone fame - finding the "real" Betty Page in a trailer park in Florida!), well before she married Alex Binnie...
If you want to settle this argument, find yourself a copy of this book - then decide for yourselves...
